Ali H. Mesiwala, M.D. is a board certified neurosurgeon, and respected researcher, who specializes in the development of endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques for both cranial and spinal surgery. He collaborates with nationally renowned otolaryngology and head and neck surgery centers across the country to perform complex skull base and vascular procedures. In addition, he is an expert in complex spinal procedures, including deformity correction and revision surgery.
Dr. Mesiwala has written more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts, and has been featured on radio and television segments. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The Pituitary Network, Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, and Indian Medical Association.
Dr. Mesiwala earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University. After earning his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Mesiwala completed his surgical internship and neurological surgery residency at the University of Washington. He was appointed Chief Resident of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington. Dr. Mesiwala also completed neurological skull base and cerebrovascular fellowships at the University of Washington, International Neurosciences Institute in Hannover, Germany, and the University of Pittsburgh. Before he established SCCNS, Dr. Mesiwala was the attending neurosurgeon at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. He has received numerous honors for his research efforts including a grant from the American Brain Tumor Association and the National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Outside the operating room, Dr. Mesiwala is active in various charity and non-profit organizations. He has a passion for life and helping others and is very involved with his family.
